Appointment of Interim DEAS Director |
This message is sent on behalf of Dr. Norka Ruiz Bravo:
I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Mr. David Mineo, Chief Grants Management Officer of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), Interim Director of the Division of Extramural Activities Support (DEAS) within the Office of Extramural Research (OER). The DEAS is the newly established organization that will house the NIH's "most efficient organization" for the extramural administrative support services competition of OMB A-76. Within the DEAS, Mr. Mineo will work with the NIH Transition Team (chaired by Mr. David Whitmer) and with other senior OER and OD staff in the selection and placement of DEAS leadership staff and in addressing the critical implementation logistics for the new structure slated to begin April 1.
Mr. Mineo has been involved in NIH's extramural programs since 1979 where he began his extramural experience as a grants management specialist in the National Institute on Aging (NIA). He became a grants management officer in 1987 in the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) and served in a similar capacity with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) prior to joining NIDDK. I know that you will all join me in welcoming Mr. Mineo to the OER during this important transition period. Mr. Mineo's detail to OER will end April 30, 2004.
Finally, I wish to thank Drs. Allen Spiegel and Bob Hammond for so generously allowing NIH to once again borrow the services of a key NIDDK staff member.
Norka Ruiz Bravo, PhD
Deputy Director for Extramural Research
