Subject:   Clarification of GS-8 Lead Extramural Support Assistant Vacancy Announcements

There has been some confusion over the vacancy announcements for the GS-8 Lead Extramural Support Assistants (GS-303-8) in the Division of Extramural Activities Support (DEAS). The revised announcement, which closes on March 10th, can be found online at:
https://jobs.quickhire.com/scripts/hhs.exe/runjobinfo?aOrg=1&aJob=1211&Username=~BROWSE~&ORGIMG=qh.gif.

The revision includes more clear instructions on who can apply, the Hub locations, the pay scale of the GS-8, and that positions are available in multiple locations such as Bethesda, Rockville, Frederick, and Research Triangle, NC. Please note there are multiple positions available as well (at least a total of 52 positions).

There is a similar announcement posted for current staff on excepted service appointments. Only a handful of staff are on these appointments so most would use the link listed above. To determine if you are on an excepted service appointment, please review block #3 of your latest SF-50, Notification of Personnel Action. If you are on an excepted service appointment, you would apply using the following URL -
https://jobs.quickhire.com/scripts/hhs.exe/runjobinfo?aOrg=1&aJob=1150&Username=~BROWSE~&ORGIMG=qh.gif.

Many staff at the GS-8 level and above may have also applied for the previously posted GS 9/11/12 Extramural Program Specialist positions or the GS 11/12 Supervisory positions. The selection for these DEAS positions will not be complete by closing date of the GS-8 positions. You are encouraged to consider applying for the GS-8 positions as well. Selections for the higher graded positions will be complete prior to the selections for the GS-8s. If you are selected for a higher graded position, you can accept that offer and withdraw your application for the GS-8 position. By applying for both, you will not be penalized and only offered a position at the lower level. Applying for multiple positions increases the opportunities you have to select from.

Please note that current GS-8 or above staff who have been identified as extramural support services staff impacted by the Most Efficient Organization (MEO) will be given first consideration for these positions. While this doesn't preclude GS-7 staff with at least one year of time in grade from applying, given the considerable competition for these positions, those staff need to have realistic expectations. The GS-7 and below staff vacancy announcements will be online later in March and I will send out an e-mail to this list serv when it is available.
